Windows and office licenses are updated automatically when connect to the university license server to update the license. This is then valid for 180 days, but it needs to connect again before 180 days pass.
This can be done by connecting to the university network – that could be using a wired connection in college or by connecting using VPN when on Wi-Fi. You need the Cisco Any connect VPN Software to allow you to do this, (and access services that are restricted to oxford) IT services have full details of this at https://help.it.ox.ac.uk/vpn.
Office checks for license details when it first runs after a restart. I recommend that every month or so you restart the computer, then, before doing anything else run the Cisco any connect VPN client so you are connected to the university network, This should update the license if its for office. Windows should automatically check when you use VPN, The updates don’t always happen first time, but of you do this every month or so it should all get updated before the license expire.
